In 2014, The District sponsored a grant through DNRC to promote soil health in McCone County through Cover Crops.
Specifics of the grant allows The District to develop an incentive program for producers to try cover crop mixes. In this cost sharing program, The District will cost share up to $2,000.00 per producer for cover crop seeds. Mixes should have a minimum of 5 species and 3 crop types. Field tours will be conducted July 1 through September 30, 2014 (or later).
To introduce this program, The District hosted a Soil Health Workshop at the McCone County Fairgrounds in Circle on February 12, 2014. The workshop covered diverse topics in soil health such as: Integrated Control on Canada Thistle, Soil Biology and Management and No-Till cropping systems.
